BUILD YOUR FLIGHT SIMULATOR
Which Flight Sim Equipment Do You Need?
Start with the aircraft you want to simulate, the software you use and whether the equipment will be desk-mounted or installed in a permanent cockpit. A flightstick and yoke provide different control styles, while throttles, panels and rudder pedals complete the setup.
01Flightstick and FFB base
Suited to combat aircraft, helicopters and aircraft controlled by a stick. A force feedback base can reproduce forces and vibration when supported by the simulator and profile. Check that the grip, base and connection work together.
02Yoke
A yoke mirrors the controls used in many airliners, transport aircraft and general aviation. Check travel, force feedback, desk mounting and which yoke handles work with the base.
03Throttle and control panels
Throttle controls manage engine power and can be configured with modules for different aircraft types. Panels add physical controls for functions such as flaps, landing gear and other systems.
04Rudder pedals
Rudder pedals control yaw and are also used for taxiing and coordinated turns. Compare pedal spacing, resistance, adjustment and whether toe brakes are included.
05Mounts and modules
Desk clamps, adapters, dampers and additional modules may be needed for correct placement and functionality. Check what is included with the main product before adding accessories.
Civil or combat flight?
A yoke and modular throttle resemble many civil aircraft, while a flightstick and separate throttle controls often suit combat aircraft and helicopters. A flexible system is possible, but each base, grip and module must be compatible.
Check before ordering
- Platform, operating system and support in your flight simulators.
- That the base, grip, yoke and modules use compatible connections.
- What is included and which mounts or power supplies are sold separately.
- Space, ergonomics and secure desk or cockpit mounting.
Common Questions About Flight Sim Equipment
Should I choose a flightstick or yoke?
Choose according to the aircraft you fly most often. A flightstick suits many combat aircraft, helicopters and sidestick configurations, while a yoke mirrors the controls in many civil aircraft and airliners.
What does force feedback do in a flight simulator?
Force feedback can create changing resistance, vibration and forces based on the aircraft and simulation. The experience depends on hardware, simulator support, telemetry and settings.
Do I need rudder pedals?
They are not required to begin, but provide separate and more natural control of the yaw axis. They are particularly useful for helicopters, propeller aircraft, taxiing and crosswind landings.
Does Flight Sim equipment work on console?
Support varies and many advanced Flight Sim products are intended for PC. Always check the product page, manufacturer compatibility list and support in the specific simulator.
